As we note in Black Hat, there are some scummy nasty things that can be done under the guise of curation. These are the ways of ethically curating a collection.
- Define a topic, scope, purpose for your curation effort (website or otherwise).
- Publish in your curation only those items which fit the topic, scope and purpose.
- Clearly link to the curated item.
- Live within the fair use doctrine.
- Make it clear who are the originators of the curated items.
- Strive to link to original sources.
- Add value or meaning to the curated items.
- Include content from "competitors" or content you do not agree with.
