Black-hat techniques that look like Curation but aren't

It can be easy for a "curator" to stray close to or over the edge of playing black hat SEO tricks on the Internet. All the RSS/Atom feeds on the Internet are just sitting there begging to be repurposed. It can be tempting to fill a website with a flood of free content, written by others, and conveniently published via RSS feeds. If done in a willy-nilly way this just adds to the noise of information rushing past us, and does not improve the state of the Internet. However, if done ethically, with good intention, for a good purpose, a well curated website is a wonderful thing to find and adds great value to the Internet.

For example there exists software that can automatically consume every item in one or dozens of RSS/Atom feeds, and automatically post those items to a blog. This can be used ethically, or not.

It's curation when the collection is carefully chosen. Filling a website with a flood of free content is not a process of carefully chosen content.
